Dollars to Dempster
The Cubs' slinger Ryan Dempster was 17-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 2008. (AP)

It was another tough season for the Cubs after falling in the NLDS to the Dodgers. But Chicago has been busy in the offseason. The latest piece of business heading into winter ball was securing a four-year, $52 million deal for 17-game winning starter, Ryan Dempster. FULL STORY

Player: Trever Miller RP, St. Louis Cardinals 11/20/08, Time: 3:50 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Pending a physical, Miller and the Cardinals will reportedly agree on a contract, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Aaron Heilman RP, N.Y. Mets Mets 11/20/08, Time: 3:46 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Heilman, who had more than 20 starts for the New York Mets before moving to the bullpen in 2006, wants to get back into the starting rotation, according to the New York Daily News. If that doesn't happen, then the pitcher would like to be traded somewhere where he can be a starter. "The object the entire time has never been to get out of New York," Heilman's agent, Mark Rodgers, told the Daily News. "The object is to get out of the bullpen. The most success he's ever had as a pitcher has been as a starting pitcher. He was drafted by the Mets as a starting pitcher." The Daily News reported that Mets front-office personnel are divided about what to do with Heilman, with Jeff Wilpon, the team's chief operating officer, in favor of keeping him. "The objective is not to be traded," Rodgers told the newspaper. "The objective is to get out of the bullpen." (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Chase Utley 2B, Philadelphia Phillies 11/20/08, Time: 3:43 pm
 Status:
Cold Questionable
News: The Phillies announced Thursday that Utley will need right hip surgery that potentially could keep him out until the first week of June. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Thursday that the team expects Utley to be "fairly close to ready, if not ready, by Opening Day." But Amaro also conceded the team won't have an accurate feel for Utley's recovery time until after the surgery, according to ESPN.com
 Analysis:

This is a huge blow to fantasy owners and surely shakes up the first round of upcoming drafts. If Utley is, in fact, out for two months of the season, he will likely drop a couple rounds in drafts. Stay tuned for SportsBuff's Top 250 list scheduled to be published in the first week of January. (SportsBuff.com)
