Player Pos Date Injury Status Expected Return
Eric Byrnes LF July 1, 2008 Strained left hamstring on 60-day DL September 12, 2008
Comments:  Byrnes was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL on Tuesday. Byrnes appears to be struggling with a left hamstring injury that has kept him out since June 30. The move to the 60-day DL will keep him out until the end of August.
Edgar Gonzalez SP June 28, 2008 Strained right elbow on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Gonzalez was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a right elbow strain. He struck out the side in order in his one inning on Friday, but injured the elbow. He's 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA in 17 appearances - six of them starts - this year.
Orlando Hudson 2B August 10, 2008 Dislocated left wrist - out for season on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Hudson underwent surgery late Saturday night to repair a dislocated bone in his left wrist and will miss the remainder of the season.
Justin Upton RF September 1, 2008 Left game- head day-to-day September 5, 2008
Comments:  Upton left Monday's win over St. Louis after being hit in the head with a pickoff attempt in the eighth inning. Upton stayed on the ground for several minutes before walking off under his own power. "I was a little dizzy," Upton said. "It was definitely a scary moment," He said he expects to play on Tuesday night.

Atlanta Braves
Player Pos Date Injury Status Expected Return
Francisley Bueno RP August 14, 2008 three games Suspension Announced By League September 17, 2008
Comments:  The Atlanta Braves optioned rookie Francisley Bueno to Triple-A Richmond on Thursday before learning the left-hander had been suspended for three games. Bob Watson, baseball's vice president for discipline, announced the ban and a fine for intentionally throwing a pitch "in the head area" of Alfonso Soriano on Wednesday.
Matt Diaz LF May 28, 2008 Torn ligament, left knee - out 4-6 weeks on 60-day DL September 7, 2008
Comments:  The Braves transferred Diaz to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday. He was first placed on the DL on May 28 with a strained left knee, and suffered a setback during a rehab assignment in the minors.
Yunel Escobar SS September 3, 2008 Left game - sore left shoulder day-to-day September 5, 2008
Comments:  Escobar left Wednesday's game against Florida in the fourth inning because of an injured left shoulder. The Braves said he's day-to-day.
Tom Glavine SP August 15, 2008 Torn flexor tendon, left elbow on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Glavine is out for the season, and his illustrious career could be over if he needs major surgery on his left elbow. He still hopes to return next year - unless he needs elbow ligament replacement surgery. A 300-game winner, the 42-year-old said Saturday he will be examined by Dr. James Andrews next week in Alabama. Glavine, who was placed on the disabled list Friday with a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow, plans to have surgery to repair the tendon.
Tim Hudson SP July 27, 2008 Right elbow surgery - out for season on 60-day DL August 1, 2009
Comments:  Hudson is clinging to the slimmest of hopes that he might be able to avoid Tommy John surgery. He has been getting treatment and will attempt to throw this weekend, even though at least two doctors have determined he needs ligament replacement surgery. The recovery period for such an operation is generally about a year, which means the pitcher would miss good chunk of next season as well.
Chipper Jones 3B September 2, 2008 Right knee strain day-to-day September 4, 2008
Comments:  Jones was scratched from the starting lineup just before the game against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night with a tweaked right knee.
Peter Moylan RP April 12, 2008 Right elbow surgery - out for season on 60-day DL March 1, 2009
Comments:  Moylan will miss the rest of the season after having elbow-ligament replacement surgery Thursday. Dr. James Andrews operated on Moylan's right elbow in Birmingham, Ala., after finding a bone spur had broken off and compromised the ligament, Braves spokesman Brad Hainje said. Moylan opened the season as the setup man to closer Rafael Soriano, who is on the disabled list with a sore elbow. Moylan was 0-1 with one save and a 1.59 ERA this season.
John Smoltz SP June 3, 2008 Right shoulder surgery - out for season on 60-day DL March 29, 2009
Comments:  Smoltz had surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his right shoulder and his hopes for a comeback in 2009 remain uncertain. Smoltz said last week he expected to get a definitive word on his comeback hopes from the operation, but no such announcement followed the procedure. Smoltz, 41, was on the disabled list twice with shoulder problems before ending his season to have the surgery.
Rafael Soriano RP August 3, 2008 Right elbow inflammation on 60-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Soriano has still felt pain in his elbow while throwing, and he may need exploratory surgery, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Soriano has pitched in only 14 games this year, and is currently in his third stint on the disabled list with the same problem.

Baltimore Orioles
Player Pos Date Injury Status Expected Return
Matt Albers RP June 26, 2008 Torn labrum, right shoulder on 60-day DL September 12, 2008
Comments:  Albers decided Wednesday to attempt to rehabilitate his ailing right shoulder rather than have surgery on a torn labrum. Albers was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Thursday after an MRI revealed the injury. If Albers successfully rehabilitates the injury, he'll miss approximately two months. Surgery would keep him sidelined from eight to 10 months, so he could opt for an operation later and still be healthy in time to contribute in 2009.
Danys Baez RP March 21, 2008 Right elbow surgery - out for season on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Baez, who is rehabbing from elbow surgery, had a minor setback a couple weeks ago but is throwing again at 120 feet. Orioles manager Dave Trembley said Baez is a month behind closer Chris Ray, who is not expected to return until August. This likely makes Baez's return for this season questionable.
Jeremy Guthrie SP September 2, 2008 Dead arm day-to-day September 7, 2008
Comments:  The Baltimore Orioles scratched Guthrie from his scheduled start on Wednesday. Guthrie, who leads the Orioles in innings pitched (186 2-3), wins (10), and strikeouts (119) has been complaining of a dead arm. Guthrie has lost three straight starts, making the shortest start of his career on Friday when he gave up seven runs in three-plus innings in a 14-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jim Hoey RP March 21, 2008 Right shoulder surgery - out for season on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Hoey was placed on the disabled list with right biceps tendinitis, the Washington Post reported. He'll remain in Florida to rehabilitate the injury.
Adam Loewen SP July 7, 2008 Stress fracture in left elbow on 60-day DL March 31, 2009
Comments:  Orioles left-hander Adam Loewen has abandoned his career as a pitcher because of a stress fracture in his left elbow, the same injury that sidelined him last season and twice put him on the disabled list this year. Loewen, 24, intends to return to the majors as an outfielder.
Troy Patton SP September 12, 2007 Strained biceps day-to-day April 1, 2009
Comments:  Patton will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, delaying the left-hander's debut with the Baltimore Orioles until at least 2009.
March 21, 2008 Left labrum tear - out for season on 60-day DL March 30, 2009
Comments:  Patton underwent season-ending shoulder surgery, delaying the left-hander's debut with the Baltimore Orioles until at least 2009.
Chris Ray RP March 21, 2008 Recovery from right elbow surgery on 60-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Ray, coming back from elbow surgery, threw 30 pitches in his third mound session Friday, and could rejoin the team before the regular season ends. The right-hander hopes to start pitching in minor league games around August 1. "I was excited to progress to that part," said Ray, who resumes working off the mound Monday.
George Sherrill RP August 16, 2008 Left shoulder inflammation on 15-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Sherrill, on the DL since Aug. 16 with left shoulder inflammation, played long toss Monday and is scheduled to do so again Wednesday. This could indicate progress toward a return for Sherrill, who has 31 saves and a 4.47 ERA this season.

Boston Red Sox
Player Pos Date Injury Status Expected Return
David Aardsma RP August 23, 2008 Strained right groin on 15-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Aardsma is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday - a move retroactive to Thursday - due to a groin injury. He will return to Boston on Monday for an MRI.
Josh Beckett SP August 18, 2008 Right elbow inflammation off 15-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Beckett is set to rejoin Boston's rotation on Friday night in Texas. Beckett, who hasn't pitched since Aug. 17 because of an inflamed right elbow, threw 58 pitches during a bullpen session before Tuesday's game against Baltimore.
Sean Casey 1B August 20, 2008 Strained neck off 15-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  The Red Sox placed Casey on the 15-day disabled list Friday, a move retroactive to Aug. 20, with a neck strain. He was hitting .345 (57-for-165) with 13 doubles and 12 RBIs in 59 games this season before he was injured.
Bartolo Colon SP June 17, 2008 Back stiffness on 60-day DL September 7, 2008
Comments:  Colon didn't allow a hit over four innings Thursday night during a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket. Colon, who has been on the disabled list since June 17 with a lower back sprain, walked two, struck out two and threw 23 of 40 pitches for strikes. He topped out at 90 mph on the radar gun, consistently threw in the 88-89 range and allowed only one hard-hit ball. His return to the Red Sox is unclear.
J.D. Drew RF August 18, 2008 Herniated disc on 15-day DL September 10, 2008
Comments:  Drew hit in the batting cage Tuesday and is feeling better, but it's still unlikely he'll return soon, the Boston Globe reported. Boston's trade for Mark Kotsay was a good indication of their uncertainty about Drew's back strain. He is eligible to be activated at any time, but with plenty of outfield help, look for the Red Sox to be cautious.
Mike Lowell 3B August 13, 2008 Right oblique strain off 15-day DL September 5, 2008
Comments:  Lowell took batting practice and grounders on Wednesday, and is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list for Friday's game in Texas. He has been sidelined with a strained right oblique since Aug. 13.
Julio Lugo SS July 12, 2008 Strained left quad on 60-day DL September 10, 2008
Comments:  The Red Sox moved Lugo from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps on Friday, but the second baseman can come off of that on Sept. 10.
Curt Schilling SP March 13, 2008 Right shoulder surgery - out for season on 60-day DL September 30, 2008
Comments:  Schilling moved closer to throwing a bullpen session in the near future, according to the Boston Globe. There is still not timetable for Schilling's return from right biceps degeneration, which has kept him out all season.
Kevin Youkilis 1B September 2, 2008 Lower back spasms day-to-day September 5, 2008
Comments:  Youkilis missed his second straight game on Wednesday, but the host Red Sox beat Baltimore 5-4. He was a late scratch with back spasms on Tuesday, as well. "He came in here a little tighter than we hoped," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.

Comments:  The Cubs placed Guzman on the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday as he continues to recover from elbow surgery.

Carlos Zambrano SP September 1, 2008 Rotator cuff tendinitis day-to-day September 12, 2008
Comments:  Zambrano has right rotator cuff tendinitis and inflammation, an MRI confirmed Thursday. Zambrano received a shot of anti-inflammatory medication and hopes to return to the rotation next week. General manager Jim Hendry said Zambrano is to start throwing again when the team begins a series in St. Louis on Sept. 10. If all goes well, Zambrano would start at Houston in the following series.

Chicago White Sox
Player Pos Date Injury Status Expected Return
Jose Contreras SP August 10, 2008 Ruptured left Achilles tendon on 60-day DL September 30, 2008
Comments:  Contreras had surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles' tendon on Monday and is expected to miss at least nine months. He left his start Saturday against Boston. Activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day, he crumpled to the ground while trying to cover first base in the second inning. He writhed in pain, clutching his ankle, and needed help to walk off the field.
Joe Crede 3B September 2, 2008 Left game - lower back tightness day-to-day September 5, 2008
Comments:  Crede was out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Cleveland because of a tight back. Crede aggravated his back diving for a ground ball in the third inning Tuesday and left in the sixth. Crede played in only 47 games last season because of back surgery in June and missed over a month when the back stiffened this season. He returned on Aug. 25, but admitted the stiffness has lingered.
Ken Griffey Jr. RF September 1, 2008 Lower back pain day-to-day September 5, 2008
Comments:  Griffey Jr. didn't start for the third time in a row Wednesday due to tightness in his lower back. With the White Sox off Thursday, manager Ozzie Guillen hopes Griffey will be ready to play Friday night at home against the Los Angeles Angels.
Carlos Quentin LF September 5, 2008 Right wrist surgery day-to-day September 26, 2008
Comments:  Quentin has a broken wrist, and the Chicago White Sox said the left fielder will have surgery next week. Quentin was removed from the lineup before Tuesday's game because of what the White Sox described then as a sore right forearm, and he hasn't played since. The team said Friday that he was hurt during Monday's game at Cleveland. A screw will be inserted into the wrist, and he will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks.
Dewayne Wise CF August 21, 2008 Strained left adductor off 15-day DL September 5, 2008

Comments:  Helton underwent an MRI on his sore back Monday and the results returned negative, according to the Denver Post. Helton also expressed concern that his season could be over. He's been on the disabled list since July 3. The first baseman was making progress with the injury until last week when he started swinging a bat.
